Cagayan RiverCagayan Province is located in the north-east of the Philippines. The east bound is the Pacific Ocean, on the south is Isabela province, on the west is the Cordillera Mountain. On the north side is the Balintang Channel and the Babuyan Group of Islands. Not far from the northside of cagayan is the island Palaui and more to the west the Fuga Island. Going more to the north you have the Babuyan Group of Islands. Those are Calayan, Camiguin, Babuyan Claro and Dalupiri. Cagayan river is about 350 km long and is rising in the mountains of central Luzon and flowing North to the Pacific Ocean at Aparri. It is navigable to small oceangoing vessels for about 20 km upstream. Tobacco is the chief crop of the basin. During the monsoon it it often extensive flooding. Agricultural products are rice, beans, peanut, corn and fruits. Lifestock products are hogs, poultry, carabaos, and cattle. In the Coastal towns people are fishing various species of fish. Its capital is Tuguegarao City with a population of roughly 130.000. Lots of activities can be done in this province as scuba diving, snorkeling and surfing in sta Ana, bird watching, mountaineering and trekking in the town of Peñablanca and Palaui Island or spelunking along the caves of Peñablanca and Baggao. There are yearly festivals in this province. In august is the Pavvurulun Festival in Tuguegarao City. Every June Cagayan province celebrates the Aggao Nac Cagayan festival which commemorates the establishment of the civil government in Cagayan on June 29, 1583. In Appari they celebrates in may the Fluvial parade a procession of about a hundred boats of different sizes and shapes in thanksgiving to their Patron, St. Peter Thelmo. The Piat Sambali festival is at the end of june in Tuguegarao City and is a war dance of tribes that were united and converted to Christianity through the intercession of the Lady of Piat.
