Batangas BeachBatangas is the most popular tourist destination near Metro manila located in the southwestern part of Luzon. Its bordered by Cavite, Quezon and Laguna. South of Batangas is the South Chinese Sea. The capital is Batangas City. An important port on the Calumpan River near its mouth on Batangas Bay, it has a large oil refinery and serves a fertile farm area noted for its fruits, cacao, and coffee. Although farming and fishing are the main economic activity in the province, they declined steadily in importance. Many farmlands has given way to residential, commercial, and industrial zones. Tourist attractions are the dive sites in Mabini, trekking in Nasugbu, Mabini and Mt. Maculot and the Taal lake vulcano. This is the smallest vulcano in the world. Batangas has also many beaches, famous are the beaches in Nasugbu, Mabini (Anilao), San Juan (Laiya) and Calatagan. In the towns of Taal, Mabini, Lipa City and Batangas City are the basilicas and old Spanish houses to see, architecture during the Pre Spanish Times. At the Batangas pier is a ferry going to other islands such as Tablas, Mindoro and Romblon. From the pier many tourists travelling to the popular destination Puerto gallera. Batangas can be reached from Metro manila in about 1.5 hour via the South super Highway (SLEX) and the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR).
